It looks like I have my boat sold, and am considering a new Axis or a pre-owned Malibu. There is a nice 2014 23LSV with about 130 hours for sale and it is about the same price my dealer has offered a new 2018 Axis A24 with power wedge and surfgate. Which would be the better choice, for the same cost? The Axis will have the sliding rear seat which the Malibu doesn't have. I am not crazy about the axis dash, and much prefer the Malibu. That being said, the digital displays also seem to have more risk of problems down the road so who knows. Anyone been in both? We wakeboard and surf, and it seems both hulls work well for both. I have yet to climb in the 2018 Axis as it is still shrink wrapped but hopefully this week I will do so. Thanks.

I'd go 2018 A24 without hesitation. A LOT has changed in 4 years and some think the new 2018 A24 hull is the best hull available from Malibu with the only exception being the M235.

Remember there are people already in 2018's so that 2014 could be a 4 year old boat. 4 year old vinyl, no warrenty, older hull vs. A new A24 no thanks

I think Axis knocked it out of the park with the new T22 and A24, we just had demo days over here in AZ and Chad Sharpe was BLOWN away by the T22 surf wave and wakeboard wake that the boat produced. T22 may edge out the A24 surf wave but the A24 wakeboard wake is REDONK! I have a T22 being built because I don't have the space for an A24 and I only wakeboard but the kids like to surf, coming from a 16 A20.

I am still waiting to look at the new Axis A24. Hopefully later this week. Not crazy about the Axis dash, but like everything else I have seen. It looks like there is no place to set things on the Axis dash. With the narrower windshield seems like a recipe for losing things over the side of the boat.

I'm looking at getting a 18 A24 as well. I'm following this thread.

The Axis rear sliding seat is a waste of energy, unless you get the backrests. And the backrests have to be attached and then take off every time you move the seat. If you don't put the backrests on, then whenever come off plane, the rear facing passengers are going to fall over backwards onto the floor. It almost appears to me that they made it less useful on purpose, to drive people to the Malibu rear facing seat, which is pretty awesome. Just saying that I don't consider it a selling point.

I had a chance to demo a 2018 A24 and was very impressed. Conditions were terribly windy, but I could tell the surf wave was nice, big and long. The power wedge II is the real deal. I was surprised how well lift mode worked.

Did Malibu have Power wedge II in 2014? Make sure to verify.

I wouldn't worry about losing anything sliding off the new Axis dash/glove box. I'd be worried about paying repair bills on a Malibu with all the electronics and maybe an engine issue with no warranty compared to a new 5yr warranty boat.

I agree but I'd much rather have it on sliders, seemed like people where always hurting there toes on that stupid metal framed sliding bench. I won't miss that at all.

I am now looking at a holdover 2017 LSV23 vs the A24. The LSV has the diamond hull. Is there a big difference in wakes with the diamond hull? My 2012 MB B52 23V has a great listed wave, and a wakeboard wake that is legit. I wouldn't want to go backwards on either if the diamond hull takes something from the wake. My dealer said it only affects the wake above 30 mph. Does this sound correct? Thanks. J

Yes that’s correct I had a 15 with the diamond and it didn’t affect the wake at all that I could tell. I ran a 16 with the wake hull some the year after very little difference. I might give the wake hull a slight edge surfing but it would be very slight. As for LSV vs Axis my opinion having and selling both the Axis wake is a beast but so is the LSV its all about how you set them up all these new Boats surf just get the one you want and you love it ether way. I will end on this there is a reason the LSV is the best selling boat of all time it performs and it resale’s and that’s the reason I will be buying the 2018 LSV this time around.
