I am considering buying used MTX tower speakers to use for a season until I can afford new Rev 8's. I am planning on using a SYN 4 for the Rev 8's when I buy them. My question is, can I use a SYN 4 on the 4 MTX speakers this summer or will that amp not work for them?

Thanks.

You will be pushing it with that syn 4. The mtx speakers are rated 150w max. That amp puts out 125 watts per channel. Dont run to much bass through them.

So my only worry would be blowing the speakers then if turned up too high?

I am considering a used set just to get me through the season as I need more important items first, bags, 5 blade prop, wakesurf board, import taxes on the boat etc etc etc.

I think they will sound great on that amp, I run mine on a 500.2 Orion that's rated at 1000 watt max, rms is 250 X 2 at 2ohm and mine sound really nice. More speakers are blown up by underpower that too much

+1 on underpower is way worse than to much.

Under powered is way worse... Most speakers blow because of a dirty under powered signal that makes the speakers clip.

Can some of the audiophiles chime in in explain this. I've read both sides to the under powering of speakers. Here's a couple articles that claim it won't damage speakers...

I picked up a pair of Rev 8s and don't want to damage them with too little power. Definitely not my area of expertise. Thanks

If you are the only one who will touch the volume control then having your speakers on an amp with too little power is perfectly ok. but if say one of your kids or a drunk buddy was like "check this out man" and cranks up the volume on an under powered system... this is when clipping happens and speakers die. Having the right amount of power will keep the signal clean and stop any distortion at higher volumes therefor preserving the overall life of your speakers. As long as you keep the volume under the distortion level you should be fine though. The best scenario is to have an amp with more power than required that is tuned properly so everything will be LOUD and clear. :) hope this helps a little.

That actually helps a lot. Makes total sense. Thanks.
