Had a few guys on my boat yesterday who have a lot of experience and knowledge about wakeboarding, boats, props and the Axis line. Later next week sometime I will post pictures of the wake as requested by some, as well as the gopro video of the guages that I took. This is a comparison of the OJ Core prop that I was running last year with the new OJ Cinco. The OJ core is the most aggressive prop for the axis and from what I have read, is very similar to one of the ACME 1615 (the more aggressive one).

AXIS A22

335 w/ CAT
No Wedge
Full fuel tank
4 adults, 1 toddler
Air = 84 F
Water = 65 F
Water level range = 5’- 14’


OJ Core prop

No Ballast (600 lbs of lead)

0-23 mph = 8.6 seconds (average of 3)
23 mph RPM = 3150 (24 mph RPM = 3350)
Top Speed = 35.5 mph
Clean wake slowest speed = 18 mph


Full Ballast [4000 lbs (1900 rear, 1800 front, 250 center plus gear) no wedge]

0-23 mph = 18.4 seconds (average of 3)
23 mph RPM = 3550
Top Speed = 35.2
Clean wake slowest speed = 22 mph


OJ Cinco prop

No Ballast (600 lbs of lead) and rear hard tanks not completely empty +/-200 lbs

0-23 mph = 8.8 seconds (average of 2)
23 mph RPM = 2900
Top Speed = 40.5
Clean wake slowest speed = *19 mph


Full Ballast [4000 lbs (1900 rear, 1800 front, 250 center plus gear) no wedge]

0-23 mph = 20.9 seconds (average of 2)
23 mph RPM = 3300
Top Speed = 38
Clean wake slowest speed = 23 mph

* there was still some water in rear hard tanks, possibly 200-300 lbs. I believe if it would have been completely dry like when the Core prop was tested, the clean wake speed would have been the same as the Core prop.


Other Notes by observers:

Cinco prop is considerably quieter when throttle is wide open getting the boat to speed. At speed, in boat noise was also noticeably quiter. We could hear each other talk without yelling. The faint whining of the v-drive was present with the Cinco, but not with the Core. The engine exhaust noise could be heard with the Cinco but not the Core. The combination of the exhaust with the v-drive whine was a pleasant surprise.
There was absolutely no porpoising at any speed with either prop. the bow rise was considerably less with the Cinco. The Cinco “bit” harder during high speed sharp turns, felt smoother during small turns or adjustments, was smoother at every engine speed and boat speed, and was smoother during at-speed acceleration. Axis speed control had no problems holding speed with either prop. The Cinco produced a cleaner wake with less prop wash, noted by all observers. The Cinco did feel like it would cavitate for a few prop revolutions during hard acceleration from 0 mph.
The Cinco performed well getting the loaded A22 up to speed, but the Core will pull a little bit more weight.
It was a great experience and I am very happy with the results. I think that the Cinco prop met my expectations of an increase in performance and the reduction of noise. The Axis A22 with the OJ Cinco is the perfect combination, in my opinion.

Nice write up. Good to hear. Glad you were honest and it's not all over the top 5 Blade praise. Sounds like you do lose a little on the bottom end , but you gain everywhere else. I think it will do exactly what I wanted and give me a back up in my 1615.

I rode Dustin's boat the other day as mine has been in for warranty work. I was not impressed with the cinco after getting back in my boat with the 1235. You may gain a little bottom end from the cinco over the 1235. Not much. Top speed is about 1mph high and 300 to 400 rpm difference isn't much. The brag and hype was rpms supposed to drop close to 1000 at wakeboard speed. I don't know if it's worth the money. I would pay what I was quoted for one at cost. Not any higher.

AJ. NastyA20 did a comparison of the 1235 (acme high altitude) vs the cinco. If I remember correctly, he gained a lot of bottom end without sacrificing much top end, if at all. Hopefully he chimes in, or you can do a search to find the thread.

texas boy. yeah man, you are in the same situation as I am. I was worried that I would not be able to get on plane with the cinco since the core barely did it, and the high alt wouldnt. The very very little I lost on the bottom is worth it to be riding at almost 300 rpms lower all the time and getting better gas mileage. I cannot stress enough how much quieter it was too. that was the coolest thing. I got my boat new with the core and first time driving it, I was surprised how loud that it was. now its so quiet, so smooth, better wake, better handling. And like you, have a really nice, usable back up.

Gib, if it drops my rpms down 300-400 I would like that and if I "feel" a gain on acceleration when slammed that's a plus. I would like the quieter cabin as well. Thanks for your info.

When I purchased the a20, it came with the Acme 537. Was always wanting someone to compare a core to the Cinco. The videos I did were just having the Cinco at rpm/time loaded/unloaded.

I don't have an issue on an a20 with 2x750's, hard tanks, front axis pnp and crew of 5. Yes- Axis does like weight in bow area, and when I'm loaded with wedge down- weight up front helps. After reading reviews, I went with the Cinco due to the much lower rpm at speed. Less stress on engine and saves a bit on fuel.
I've been happy with it, very quiet and I don't have problems.

AJ West... as requested.

speedo was calibrated last summer and is correct +/- 0.2 mph.

cinco prop at 19 mph, the slowest I could have a clean wake with 4 adults, 600 lead, and another few hundred in residual water in the rears. full fuel. bimini up. slight winds, 10mph?

core prop at 18 mph, the slowest I could get a clean wake with 4 adults and 600 lead... first test of the day so ballast was completely empty and dry. full fuel, bimini up, slight winds at 10?

full ballast pics are poor due to bad light and the winds picked up. for sure the cinch made a cleaner wake face, no noticeable change in roost.

2nd is the cinch.

sorry they are so small, had to resize them so they would fit. you can see the 2nd pic of the cinco how bad the water got.
