The mounting "ball", where the gas shock attach to the boat is loose. The portion on the sunpad is fine but only the portion that attach to the metal frame is loose. How can I tighten it? It just spin freely.
I can't seem to find a way to reach the back side of this mounting bracket.

I attached a picture for clarity.

I would drill/cut a wrench access hole, apply thread-locker, and tighten it up. Better access might come in handy again at some point in the future. If you can't cut a neat hole, finish it up with a sign/label/thing-that-looks-like-it-belongs to hide the scar.

Mine came loose so this past winter I took the rear seat back off and drilled a hole directly accross from the mount big enough to fit a socket in and put a nut on the end and tightened. I figured while I had it a part I did the same thing to the other side while I had it a part. Staying tight so far and easy to get to if it comes loose again.

Thank you r33pwd, ordered the rivet and new ball stud just to be on the safe side.

My mounts at boat and cover on my 14 stay tight, it’s the piano hinge I constantly have to maintenance or if not the pressure on shock is greater and one hatch starts to make noise and close just slightly off,

I BABY the hatches on close or open and check the screws to hinge all the time. I open mine a lot to check on bag fill and use warming tray for storage and clean boat . I noticed it real early on snd did the maintenance early and often and babied it on open or close

So no matter how you fix the shock mounts, I think the key is the hinge maintenance and baby open close that keeps it that way. Why do all 4 of my 2014’ shock mounts stay tight and have NEVER even approached loose

I don’t even let it travel the last 8 inches of travel to open hatch on its own gas shock resistance , I make it travel that last 8 inches opening slowly by my control and not the shock controlling it like it was designed. That way less stress on shock and mounts and less pressure on hinge.

I’ve seen folks just let the hatch drop down from multiple feet high, I lhold mine till I have to grab strap and hold that for last 5-10 inches and put it down real easy . Those are huge locker hatch covers. The attachment and operating gear is less than impressive compared to size of cover so needs to be babied

I hold the panel to avoid any banging, but I bought the boat like that, so im trying to fix the previous owner mistakes.

Ok, typical situation for the person fixing it, sorry fir implying you abused it. Did you check the piano hinge screws?? Many, due to abuse your correcting , have to do anchors in the plastic locker panel to re anchor the hinge screws
