 Post subject: Trim tabs vs adding bow weight for A22

Maybe this is a stupid question but I️ will throw it out there. General opinion is that the 2016+ A22 needs more bow weight. Mine surfs nose and does not like to break plane when fully loaded. I️ was going to add 300lbs to the nose this winter. Then I️ got to thinking about trim tabs as an alternative.

Pros- don’t have to haul 300 lbs every where I️ go. Adjustable list control for surf side and wave tuning. Plane faster.

Cons- drilling holes in the hull and dash. More stuff mess with when driving. Less weight —> small wave.

Thoughts?

I'm interested to hear if there's something that would make it plane easier and add effective bow weight.

Even empty, it's easy to swamp the bow in the A20 if you're not paying attention.

Have you thought about swapping out you're free floating wedge for a power wedge 2? It bolts right up, all you would have to do is make yourself a wire harness to a 3 way momentary switch.

I've never used a boat with tabs but wouldn't it raise the rear of the boat and not really lower the bow? Almost like putting less weight in the rear.

You could plumb in a pump for an extra bow bag. It's been done by a few with good results. That way your not having to deal with a submersible pump.

With trim tabs down it lifts the back of the boat and keeps the bow down. My buddy has a MC X23 with auto launch. When pulling back into neutral the 3 tabs automatically go down until you are up to your speed set point, they will then adjust to what ever you have them set for. I've never been on a boat that planed out faster with zero bow rise and full ballast then a MC with auto launch.
