My 2014 A20 just lost several screws on the piano hinge that holds the engine hatch on.

The design looks pretty awful as the hydraulic opening arm is very powerful, the engine hatch rubs against the hull pretty hard when opened, and the cup holder vinyl is worn off because of friction of the hatch fitting down.

Has anyone seen an updated or better designed hinge? Has anyone switched to a less powerful lifting arm?

I had the exact same problem. Just get a thread repair kit and follow the instructions. I used a recoil thread repair kit and it worked like a champ.

I ended up using zinc drywall anchors on the engine hatch. Can't see it and the larger diameter bites really well in the softer
/loose seat base material.

I have Exact same A20 very lightly appointed; I noticed that early on luckily when I noticed it wasn’t quite closing properly and now every 6 months I need to tighten screws , got lucky 1st time had only 1loose/stripped screw and got it to re bite on an angle.

I’m also more careful now and lift slowly till it gets to the last couple inches that the arm takes control. Just regightened them last week cause I noticed the one side closing funny

Wish I would have known about tightening all the screws I can see on the boat at least once a year like I do now

Love the zinc drywall anchors cause they will bite the hard back quickly and can re-use SS screws !!!

What are you surfing in that boat, I run 850 rears with kinetic vents so well burped , the 950 front well burped, stock and wedge and 500 lead, and we list extensively (4-6 gallons per hour depending on people load) with opposite side rear sac deflation
Have you been able to clean up your regular wave, I can make it decent size and length for push but not clean
If so let me know your set up
Hoping the lead I got to replace 3 150’s allows for some help cleaning up that wave
Goofy sick, will only get better with the lead front and back

Another fantastic design by Malibu/Axis. Like everything else cheaply designed on an expensive boat. My 2015 A20 the screws came loose. Took the seat back out and drilled a hole large enough for a socket to fit directly opposite the hole for the strut. Put a nut and locking washer on and tightened down. Not coming out now and if it would loosen up have access to it.
