I bought a 1 owner 2015 Axis T23 that had about 16 hours on it. Used it 3 times and put another 10 hours on it. Last time I used it we had cruised for about 30 minutes to the end of the lake and then was slowly idling into an inlet. This was 4ft deep over a sandy bottom. Put it in neutral and was slowly reversing back when it started to sputter and die. It never completely died, so I put it in neutral and then in drive and it kept sputtering. Put it back in neutral and turned it off. Wouldn't and hasn't restarted since. It was acting like it was running out of fuel. Even though the gauge read half a tank, we added more and won't start. What's weird is that it ran FLAWLESSLY for the 10 hours i've had it. Never a sputter what so ever. 7 hour rescue later, I took it to the local Malibu dealer who has over $4000 in troubleshooting into it and can't figure it out. Neither can PCM. So far they've called me multiple times thinking they found the issue, only to find out it didn't fix it. This includes...

- Distributor cap
- Plug wires
- Fuel pressure regulator
- Relay

Now they think its either a wiring harness issue or an ECM issue.

Anyone have any ideas on this? Super disappointing to buy an almost new point only to have it crap out, miss 3 key boating weekends (and counting) and have a $4000 bill (and counting) that warranty may or may not cover. I appreciate the help!

Very sorry to hear about the issue.

Are you in the 509 area code? What dealer is looking at it? Is it getting spark? Has the emergency disconnect key been removed or possible come undone do where that connection has been broken? Have you checked fuel filter or fuel pump?

An internal combustion engine only needs 3 things, spark/fuel/air. If it's getting all 3, it's likely electrical at that point. I hope this helps a little.

I am in the 509 area code. It's at Hagadone Marine right now. They said it's getting spark. At first they thought it was a timing issue, but since moved on from that.

We checked the emergency disconnect while still on the water. Flipped it a few times, but no change.

I haven't checked the fuel filter or fuel pump. We did check the valve on the fuel rail while still on the water, and it had pressure. We didn't have a gauge so not sure the exact pressure.

Off topic question, but what colors are the boat?

Such low hours to have a problem like this. Gotta be electrical related IMO. Keep us posted! I'd offer you a ride while your boats in the shop...but I'm still waiting for Hagadone to receive my new one.

$4000 bill so far, is their labor rate $400+ an hour? That's insane they must be charging you for 3 techs at a time to twiddle thumbs. it's not hard to check fuel pressure, spark and compression. Then move on from there if that checks out. Sounds like their just throwing parts at it like most car lots do anymore.
