Every year around this time, the lake gets overgrown with grass and my boat sucks it up and usually starts to get hot. I end up having to flush the cooling system to get the grass out. Its my understanding that the PCM engine doesn't have a strainer so I'd like to install an inline one. Any recommendations?

I do not use a strainer and have no first hand experience with them but.. I have heard a few that use the Perko kit. I have also heard of these being a little brittle due to the plastic.
Indmar came out with one a few years ago that is supposed to be more durable and doesn't reduce the flow of water quite as much as the Perko

^^^^^^ This is what Malibu uses . I had one put on my 2016 A20. No problems thus far!

I have the Sherwood version on my t22 w/410. Its been fine, no issues. I does help a lot as I have a shallower area behind my house and suck in leaves/weeds when lake is very low.

Thanks! Any chance you could post a pic of it on your boat?

Thanks... yeah, I go through a shallow spot to get the place we ride and that's where we suck up weeds. Can you post a pic of the strainer on your boat?

So you've got to remove the transmission hump to check it? Ugh. . . .

Yep, that's the exact location if you order it as an option from Malibu.

I think this was a $200 option when I bought mine new. It looks like it should cost way less, but it's worth every penny. When I get into a lot of gunk (usually small sticks and pine needles and stuff in the log soup at the end of canyons on Lake Powell) and the boat starts overheating, you just shut it down, turn off the water intake, pull the strainer out and wash it out (repeat 2 or 3 times maybe) and you're good to go.

I don't know where that crap ends up without the strainer, but I can assure you it won't be as easy to get out as it is to get it out of that strainer.
