Looking for some advice. My family and I are new to wake surfing this summer and we are all hooked. We have been surfing behind my buddies 2017 23LSV. I have decided to order my first boat this fall for use next summer. I have decided that I want to get an AXIS and I am trying to decide between the T22 and A24. I am not sure if I want a 24+ foot boat but in the end I am getting this to surf and I am sure that my kids will want to wakeboard as well.

I would appreciate opinions regarding the surf wake behind the A24 and if it is really that much bigger than the T22?

Do you mean T23? Hard to compare the T22 to the A24. If you are looking to surf with Axis the best options are A24 and T23. If you are buying to fit in a garage or need to fit a budget go smaller. All Axis surf well and in my opinion they are the easiest to surf for people new to the sport.

From what I have heard the '18 A24 with its redesign is legit. Not sure it will comparable to the T22. How come T22 vs A24? Not interested in the T23? The pre 2018 T23 could compete with the best of them (would be very similar to your buddies 23LSV) and now the 18s have the option for power wedge and the complete redesign of the A24 time will tell which is "better" the T23 or A24. Hopefully it will just come down to preference on styling. Also all 18s get a minimum 409 motor, base was 350 before that, but it is easy to prop it based on what you are trying to do if you find a leftover 17.

Personally I have a '16 A20 (350 motor) and we load it up with 3K of ballast and then 6 adults and the wave is plenty for me a 6'1" 190 lbs. The next boat was going to be the T23 with a bigger motor, but now with the new A24 I am going to have to test drive them to see which we prefer. I like the pickel of the A series and so does the Mrs.

All of the Axis line surfs well, but as I have found out bigger is better here for surfing. A guy on our lake has the T23 and it makes my wave look tiny. Wakeboarding I don't use any rear ballast, fill the bow 2/3rds and it is plenty for me. Anything more it would just scare the crap out of me. A buddy wakeboarded the other weekend with our surf ballast set up at 22 mph and he was a good 15' feet in the air. I think it was more than he bargained for.

Test drive and see for your self. I have seen some serious waves behind the T22s, they just seem to get a little bigger/longer the bigger the boat you go.

To me t23 or a24.. I have kids and a big "crew" so the bigger bow won over the better surf wave.

Agree with the above. Kind of odd to be comparing an A24 to a T22. But anyway... here is how I went about which one to get.
First, what is your average crew size?
Second, do you prefer the pickle fork or traditional bow. Not just the looks but the way the cabin area is proportioned is quite different.
There are a few little differences in some of the upgrades this year but I wouldn't let that be my deciding factor.
They all have good wakes and good waves. Yes, the 23 and 24 will put out a better surf wave but lets face it, most of us are all just weekend warriors and the difference in waves or wakes will not make any difference to us.
But back to the original question. It's really just a matter of how big and what type of bow. Just my $.02. Go demo a few. Good luck

I have a 2016 T-22 that got us hooked into surfing. In 18 months we have put 200 hours on it. But I do have a 2018 A-24 on order that should get here mid September.

My normal passenger load is me and 1-4 of my kids under 12. Unless I'm wanting to surf my wife will drive which she HATES because of all the "Crap in the boat". Hence why I'm buying an A-24. My dealer swears the PW2 and PNP will blow my current set up away. If it even matches it when I load it down I'm beyond happy, and I might get more riding time.

All the "crap in the boat"
When I want to set my boat up for a large wake. 1100 in the rear locker, not sure how much they actually weigh because they don't fill all the way before they start to vent. 650 PNP in bow and 900 on bow cushions with a 1000lb bag in the walk way. I agree with her there is no room to move around. And it's a hassle to set up.

Thanks for all the advice, I guess I was thinking T22/A24 mainly because of the redesign. I have been leaning towards the A24 but will now consider the T23. You bring up great points that even though it is an update they aren't huge. The major one for me is the power wedge II which I could get on a T23. I love the wake that my buddy's 23 LSV puts out with the power wedge II and would be happy with anything close to that. Although having a bigger/better wake than his would be nice ;)

For those that have an A24 is the standard 409 motor adequate or have any of you found when it is weighted down you need more power like the 450 would offer? I am at an altitude of about 1850 ft above sea level.

I have a 2015 A24 with the 409. Many times I have had it fully loaded (ballast and 8 buddies) with no issues. Primarily we are at sea level but once a year we are on Couer D Alene which is at about 2200', still no issues. Love my Axis!

Remember....the 18 A24 comes standard with a 17" prop.
