 Post subject: Metal rub rail spots

Does anyone have any recommendations to clean up the metal rub rail? I'm not sure what the metal is.

I was going through my car cleaning supplies today and found some metal polish to polish up my board racks, and it removed the spots on my rub rail as well so now guess what I'm doing the rest of the day.
