I just got my new A22 with surfgate and would like some tips for weighting the boat for surfing. We are just learning to surf and have no idea what we are doing.

What are your ballast plans?

That's what I'm wondering. The boat is plumbed for PNP and I can get 950# for the front and from 400 to 1100 # for the rear lockers. Not sure what to go with or what the minimum needs to be for a good surf wake.

I'd get Sumo 750's for the rear (gives you the option to use surf gate or you can have the extra capacity to traditionally list the boat to one side for a better lip on the wave). The Sumo sack 750 holds around 850. The 950 bow sack won't hold near 950...maybe 650-ish. Your ballast choices will also depend on size of your crew as to if you'll need extra sacks on the floor or on top of the bow cushions. However, most of us use an extra 400-650lb sack on top of the bow to lengthen the pocket of the wave.

We have the FH 950 in the bow and the Ronix 800s in the lockers. We are still breaking in the motor but should be playing with the setup soon. I am pretty sure we will be adding another one of our 400s in the bow and maybe more. Half the fun of having one of these boats is messing with the setup until it's perfect and then doing it again.

Update on weight setup. 3 of us went out tonight and ran 800s full in the rear and mushroom sac full with another 400 in the bow. I took 2 400lb bags but one had a hole in it. We used the wedge and the wake was somewhat soft. We will be trying another 400lb in the bow and maybe more in the cabin. These boats crave weight, even with SG

No kidding, had just under 5000lbs in my A24 yesterday.

Are most people running the wedge with SG? I never use the wedge when I list to the regular side. I think it takes some of the push away, but understand that may not be the case when evenly weighted.

We ran with and without last night. Without wedge the wave was really tall and seemed soft. With wedge the wave seemed to come down in height but was definitely more firm. I say this knowing that we needed another 1000lbs in the boat and most of it needs to go in the bow.
